In September 2024, Milica Marušić Jablanović and Zorica Veinović attended a course on Environmental Education in Finland: the Eco-Social Approach, organized by the Europass Teacher Academy. The course presented the ways in which the organization and functioning of the educational system as a whole represent support for environmental education and the education of students in primary schools in Finland. The course provided insights into teaching and learning approaches and models (teaching in nature, problem-based approach, encouraging critical thinking) that favor the development of environmental literacy and ecological identity, as well as students’ competence to become responsible members of a sustainable society.

Members of our team had the opportunity to present the ELIPS project, supported by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia. They shared the goal and some of the most important results of the research with the instructor and course participants – subject teachers of biology, chemistry, mathematics from several European countries (Bulgaria, Greece, Croatia, Poland and Spain).

Theoretical knowledge and practical activities from the course inspired the members of the ELIPS team to better design a symposium intended for subject teachers in primary schools in the Republic of Serbia, with the aim of encouraging and empowering them for more effective development of environmental literacy and identity of their students.
